Saturday morning: Combo class | Wheel throwing & Hand Building

Saturday 10:30am - 12:30pm with Viv Taylor

Starting Saturday 20 July - Saturday 15 September (no class on Saturday 8 September)

 For those who can't commit to weekdays, this Term we have introduced a Saturday Combo class for you to learn both wheel throwing and hand building!

Over the 8 weeks, Viv will guide you through the fundamentals of both wheel throwing and hand building. Three weeks will be spent learning the basics of each technique and then you'll have a week to work on a project of your choice using either technique.

The course will cover the principles of wheel throwing - from clay preparation, centering and pulling up - and the different hand building techniques - pinching, coiling and slab building. 

At the end of Term, you will explore our extensive in house glaze collection and different techniques to put the finishing touch on your creations.

This course allows you to learn more about clay and explore two main techniques of creating ceramics - what a perfect way to unwind in a creative, nurturing setting!

You will come away with pieces ranging from mugs, bowls, cups, vases to incense burners and candle sticks!

• Week 1 - Intro to wheel throwing / Clay preparation / Centering
• Week 2 - Working on centering 
• Week 3 - Trimming on the wheel
• Week 4 - Handbuilding 101 - pinching
• Week 5 - Coiling 
• Week 6 - Slab building
• Week 7 - Exploration of personal project
  
• Week 9 - Glazing

• Clay, tools, glazes and firing
• Apron
• Bisque firing included
• Glaze firing - 7kg included, extra kgs charged at $12p/kg

• Clothes you don't mind getting messy in
• Your creative imagination and any ideas of what you want to create
