We have combined our Handbuilding 101 and Try the Wheel class into one hands-on introduction to both wheel throwing and hand building! Now you don't have to choose and you get to try both techniques to learn more about clay!
We have designed the class for beginners or anyone curious about clay to give you a good chance to dive in and explore what clay can offer you.
In the 3 hours, you'll get to:
- Spend time on the pottery wheel learning to centre and shape basic forms
- Learn hand-building techniques including pinch, coil and slab construction
You'll create and keep:
- One wheel-thrown pot
- A pinch pot with handle
- A slab-built trinket dish
At the end of the session, you will choose your glaze colour from our comprehensive glaze collection! From there, we will look after all your pieces and nurture them through the bisque firing, glaze them in your chosen colour and fire them.
Light nibbles provided.
Suitable for ages 16+. Younger participants welcome by request.

My first time ever working with clay so I was a little apprehensive, but I soon relaxed into the class.

My 3 kids (aged between 7 and 13) participated in wheel throwing workshop during the school holidays and absolutely loved it. They learnt so much and have not stopped asking when they can go back. The teacher was patient and helped each of them learn new skills. Was a great activity, would highly recommend.

They spend the week beforehand planning what they want to do and then don't waste a minute getting into it.
